Alpinet project is a private initiative with the purpose of promoting the mountain tourism in Romania. The project includes site www.alpinet.org (the most visited mountain portal in Romania), discussion lists with mountain themes (over 1000 members), tourist orientation and GPS, news, stock.

Mountain tourism in Romania, a field with a remarkable developing potential, is little promoted, sustained and covered by the media. There are a few books, monographs, maps, regular publications. The mountaineers must turn to guides that appeared tens of years ago, new or old maps, but hard to find, information from the elder. In this context, the initiative (even a commercial one) of the creation of a digital map of Romania is welcomed. We strongly believe that we can surpass our egos and personal interests in the attempt of eliminating Romania from the white zone of the digital Europe.
